On behalf of Bangor University, the School of Arts, Culture and Language will provide a timely and wide-ranging programme of activity to celebrate the 200 anniversary of Menai Bridge. In the nineteenth century, science, art and the humanities were not understood as separate, but as intertwined and connected – poetry could be scientific, and engineers were artists. The Menai Bridge at 200 programme celebrates the rich history of the Menai Bridge, such as the scientific innovations that enabled the completion of the bridge, the engineering marvels, the development of infrastructure that connected the United Kingdom to Ireland and beyond, and how these have an ongoing impact on our culture.
