Crynodeb

Routinely burnt heather has a distinct spectral signature and a study linking Landsat multispectral information, calibrated from data collected at specific sites on the ground, was carried over 2 years. There was an extremely high level of correlation between ground and satellite data and heather ( 92% ) and, although the reliability with other moorland vegetation was less eg. bracken 48% and 54% coarse grassland, a useful management tool was created and the paper was one of the first bringing remote sensing and vegetation management together in the days of large pixel satellite imaging.
