This article explores the relationship between languages that is enacted in two anthologies co-edited by US poets Jerome Rothenberg and Pierre Joris, Poems for the Millennium, volumes 1 and 2, considering it in the light of performance and performativity. The article examines the different phases of translingual avant-garde practice reflected in the anthologies as well as their twenty-first-century legacy.
