Description

Our recent Chinese Tie-Dye Workshop – Ancient Colours, Modern Creations – was a brilliant splash of colour, creativity, and culture! Everyone who joined the activity had a fantastic time exploring the ancient art of 扎染 (zhā rǎn), a traditional Chinese dyeing technique with roots in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.

Participants of all ages and backgrounds rolled up their sleeves, learned about the rich history and symbolism behind Chinese tie-dye, and got hands-on with folding, tying, and dyeing fabric in a variety of traditional ways. Laughter, curiosity, and colourful designs filled the room – and true to the spirit of zhā rǎn, no two creations were alike.

It was lovely to see how each person brought their own flair to the process, producing vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces to take home – a perfect blend of heritage and personal expression.
