Description
The drivers of variation in amphibian susceptibility to chytridiomycoses remains enigmatic. However, mounting evidence suggests a complex interplay between abiotic factors, host genetics, immune responses, skin secretions and their cutaneous microbial communities. In this talk, I will explore the utility of transcriptomic and microbial profiling methods to understand differential responses to Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis infections, factors shaping amphibian skin microbiomes, and the amphibian skin immune-microbiome interface in health and disease. Collectively, this work demonstrates intra- and inter-specific gene expression responses may be pivotal to chytrid disease outcomes and are associated with skin microbial community composition. In addition, by examining natural variation in skin microbiomes and host responses to microbiome manipulation, this work provides the foundations for improved strategies to augment animal microbiomes for improved disease resilience.| Period | 10 Jun 2026 |
