Painting Elegance: A Lunchtime Journey into Chinese Orchid Art!

We were delighted to welcome staff, students, and members of the local community to another of our Discover Chinese Culture free lunchtime workshops at Bangor University.

This week’s session introduced participants to the elegant art of traditional Chinese brush painting, with a focus on orchids, long regarded in Chinese culture as a symbol of refinement, integrity, and quiet strength.

The workshop offered a calm and creative space for everyone to slow down and engage with this beautiful art form. Participants explored the cultural meaning behind orchid painting, while also being introduced to traditional brushes, ink techniques, and the importance of brush control. With guidance from our tutors, everyone had the opportunity to practise key techniques and create their own unique orchid paintings.
