The Poetry Bridges project hosted by Professor Zoë Skoulding brought creative writers to Bangor University together for a series of four events to mark the 200th anniversary of the Telford Suspension Bridge. These were supported by Literature Wales and the Bangor Fund.
Lila Matsumoto opened the series with an atmospheric poetry and sound performance. Luke Kennard's reading included poetry and a glimpse of his new novel Black Bag, following his workshop with students on the challenges of working across different literary forms. The performance by Hanan Issa, National Poet of Wales, was preceded by a screening of bridge-themed poetry films by A Level writers from Coleg Llandrillo Rhyl, produced by their teacher Samantha Egelstaff-Thomas. Along with Bangor students and a group of Year 7 pupils from Ysgol David Hughes, they contributed to a poetry anthology entitled Poetry Bridges, edited by undergraduates and featuring poetry from creative writers of all ages. The series ended with a bilingual poetry reading by Grug Muse.
