Episode five, People, recognises that agroforestry is about more than just trees, entailing a cultural as well as an ecological shift. This final episode will focus on the human element - the educational and social dimensions that shape how agroforestry is understood and adopted. We explore the importance of co-design, community networks, shared knowledge, and long-term relationships in building agroforestry systems that work for both land and livelihoods.

    • Social factors influencing AF adoption (land rights and tenure, local knowledge and culture, social capital, perceptions and attitudes, economic considerations).
    • Social benefits of AF (enhanced social capital, revitalisation of traditional land management practices, preservation of cultural heritage, improved well-being, income diversification). How tree planting/ tree care can engage local communities and bring volunteers on to farms, bridging rural/ urban divide.
    • Trees as a centre of communities throughout our evolution as a species.
    • How social dynamics (and conflict) can drive or block farm-level change. Importance of considering local social structures and values (context is key) to promote successful and sustainable adoption of AF.
