National Assembly News and Digital Information Taskforce

Description of impact

I took on the role of chair of the journalism sub-group within the National Assembly News and Digital Information Taskforce. The taskforce was formed by the Llywydd in order to recommend ways in which the Assembly can deliver engaging and accessible news and information about the legislature's work. The aim was to enhance the public sphere in Wales in order to complement an existing Welsh polity. The Welsh Assembly Commission itself will be the main beneficiary of this impact, as well any members of the public who are able to better communicate with the Welsh Assembly as a reault of implementing the report’s recommendation.

Description of the underpinning research

My contribution and elements of the final report were informed by my research into the 'democratic deficit' in the Welsh press, particular interviews with editors and journalists in online Welsh language news and a quantitative of these website's statistics.
