    Description of impact

Nation.Cymru is a news website launched in 2017 with the aim of strengthening a Welsh public sphere alongside an existing Welsh polity. As of today, the website reaches over 1,000,000 visitors a month. The anticipated impact will be to have greatly expanded the provision of news about Welsh current affairs and in so doing so expand the knowledge of Wales' institutions, both political and cultural.

Impact Summary for the General Public

I set up a news website Nation.Cymru which seeks to include a broad range of viewpoints that will promote the understanding of Welsh democracy. This website launched in May of 2017 and had attracted 565,000 viewers by December of the same year. It attracted contributions from nine Assembly Members and three MPs, as well as the party leaders of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and Plaid Cymru. This website has allowed me to directly engage with a broad public.

    Description of the underpinning research

The impact is related to a) a research paper on Welsh language press and the Welsh public sphere, b) research on Welsh nationalism in the press, c) my own expertise as a journalist working in print and digital journalism in Wales, d) my work as an author who has explored post-devolution politics in Wales.
