Personal profile

Overview

Dana Bliuc joined Bangor University in October 2025, as Reader in the North Wales Medical School. She has obtained a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of New South Wales Australia in 2011, followed by an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship, and a mid-career fellowship from the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society.

Research:

Dana’s research focuses on understanding the long-term health consequences of major clinical events and evaluating the effectiveness and safety of therapeutic interventions using large real-world data. Her doctoral research examined the population-level burden and downstream health impacts associated with osteoporotic fractures, demonstrating their contribution to premature mortality and morbidity even among individuals without traditional risk profiles. This work has informed clinical guidelines of fracture prevention.

Her current work investigates the impact of multimorbidity on prescribing decisions and treatment outcomes, as well as the contribution of health-related quality of life to recovery trajectories and post-event complications. Dana’s research aims to generate robust evidence to inform equitable and effective healthcare across diverse populations.
