Overview

I am a Welsh speaking Teaching and Scholarship Lecturer in Marine Biology here at the School of Ocean Sciences. I completed my PhD entitled 'Erosional resilience of salt marshes: Bio-physical processes from patch to national scales' in June 2019. During my PhD, I studied patterns and changes in salt marshes across the United Kingdom, from the Solway Firth in Scotland down to the River Solent in England. Welsh salt marshes in the Glaslyn-Dwyryd, Mawddach and Dyfi estuaries were local study sites of mine during this national-scale investigation. My initiative was to understand whether marsh vulnerability could be explained by physical contextual determinants, including wave force, sediment type and sea level rise. I have experience using a variety of techniques in my research, from field-based experiments and observations, laboratory-based hydrological flumes, use of historical data, photogrammetry and historical remote sensing images.

During the fourth year of my degree I completed a 12-month internship within the Intertidal and Coastal Ecosystems team at Natural Resources Wales. I have also worked as a project support officer for Technocamps, a project aimed at digitally upskilling students across Wales, through strong partnerships with Welsh Universities. I have gained QTS and therefore have experienced working in secondary education settings.
