- Write highly specialised software for 3D task-based studies & analysis of movement kinematics for Vicon, Optotrak and other motion capture systems.
- Develop bespoke software for research and undergraduate projects, for in person & online studies.
- Liaise with staff and students for detailed information prior to, and throughout, the development and testing process.
- Test, debug, modify software as necessary & check output data thoroughly for any anomalies.
- Learn new and develop existing programming languages to keep pace with the latest technology and maximise efficiency
- On occasion, design and build bespoke electronic hardware for research and undergraduate projects, liaising with the SPECIALIST RESEARCH BUILD CHIEF TECHNICIAN / IT HARDWARE ENGINEER in CoHS when needed.
- Write instruction manuals for specialist software and bespoke hardware
- Provide training in the use of specialised software & hardware, such as motion capture suites and eye trackers, for staff and students
- Liaises and collaborates with the SPECIALIST RESEARCH BUILD CHIEF TECHNICIAN / IT HARDWARE ENGINEER in CoHS
- Understand and interpret research/teaching equipment needs in order to plan and build lab facilities
- Plan, specify and purchase equipment as needed for research, impact and teaching
- Maintain, calibrate, repair equipment as required
- Supervise use of facilities/equipment and maintain bookings
- Responsible for Health and Safety in associated workshops and laboratories
- Ensure that health and safety considerations are applied when developing software & building electronic hardware
- Provide high level technical support for staff and students
- Provide specialist IT support for staff & postgraduates
- Support laboratory teaching practicals / research activities, collaborating with LAB BASED BASED CHIEF TECHNICIAN if appropriate
