Applied Legal Sills

Research output: Book/ReportBookpeer-review

Abstract

Applied Legal Skills is part of CILEX’s exciting new Explorer series. After an introductory chapter, Part 1 of the book focuses on legal study skills. Topics covered in this Part include academic study skills, legal research and legal writing skills, essay writing, answering problem questions and multiple-choice questions. We are particularly excited by our chapter on mooting and courtroom etiquette.

Part 2 of the book deals with practical professional skills. Topics covered in this Part include employability in the legal professions, personal impact, presentation skills, teamwork and group projects, legal ethics, commercial awareness and negotiation skills. Client relationships and communication with clients are also examined, together with workplace technology, accounting and networking.

The final innovative chapter covers bilingual (English and Welsh) legal skills and employability opportunities.

The textbook is supported by a wealth of podcasts and videos, including contributions from practising solicitors and barristers and professional actors, as well as additional multiple-choice questions.

This textbook will be particularly valuable for university students studying Legal Skills in both England and Wales. It will also be a valuable resource for staff in legal teams who wish to develop their underpinning knowledge and practical professional legal skills further.
