Circles in the Eternal: Practice, Place and Deep Time in the work of Alan Garner

Abstract

Through a mixture of personal essay, analysis of key texts such as The Owl Service and Red Shift and Garner’s writing and broadcast work which explores his own practice, I will consider the impact of place and deep time on writerly practice and how his engagement with these concerns has rippled across time to touch a generation of new writers.
