Abstract
The concept of a profession evolves over time. New forms of
professionalism focus on connective relationships, as well as other
elements in work such as autonomy and career development. Creating a
thriving teaching profession is an area of high priority for countries in the
OECD. How can we anticipate the future of the teaching profession? How
can we plan for the future of teaching? How can we create a future that
respects current teachers, attracts new teachers, and addresses today’s
issues? This chapter introduces concepts for new professionalism in
teaching and outlines two tools that have been developed to shape positive,
sustainable futures for the teaching profession.
