Abstract

This article describes the project Creating Across Languages, a collaboration between GwE, the North Wales regional school improvement service, and commissioned poets working in Welsh, English, and French, in response to the new Curriculum for Wales. A shift away from considering the poem as a challenging object of study, and towards engaging creatively with poetry as a plurilingual process, can provide learners with opportunities to use and experiment with languages at different levels. This is of particular relevance in Wales, where the Curriculum aims to integrate the teaching of Welsh, English, and French, but it also reflects a wider interest in translation in contemporary poetry. The article describes the materials that have been developed so far and reflects on their implementation with a group of Year 9 pupils.
