Abstract

Cardiac arrhythmias, including tachycardia and bradycardia, significantly contribute to global cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This chapter explores the comprehensive clinical, economic, and humanistic impact of pharmacist care in managing arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation. Pharmacists play a critical role in risk assessment, medication optimization, adherence counseling, therapeutic monitoring, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Evidence demonstrates that pharmacist-led interventions improve medication safety, reduce hospitalizations, and enhance patient outcomes. Economically, pharmacist involvement in anticoagulation clinics and arrhythmia management programs contributes to cost containment, avoidance of adverse drug events, and overall healthcare savings. 128Humanistically, pharmacist-led services improve patient empowerment, satisfaction, and quality of life, particularly in older adults and patients with polypharmacy. Despite these benefits, barriers such as lack of training, limited integration into care teams, funding limitations, and insufficient access to electronic health records hinder the full implementation of pharmacist services. The chapter emphasizes the need for enhanced education, better policy frameworks, and supportive infrastructure to optimize the pharmacist’s role in arrhythmia care and promote patient-centered, cost-effective cardiovascular management.
