Ireland's press publishers' right: more latent than active!

Abstract

This article provides a critical analysis of the press publishers’ right as transposed in Ireland. Despite being transposed into Irish Law almost four years ago, the provision is generating few if any actual or forecast economic benefits for Irish press publishers. Moreover, a recent governmental report paints a particularly bleak picture for Irish press publishers. In contrast, there is strong evidence that the press publishers’ right has evolved very positively in other EU Member States such as Denmark, France and Germany.
