    Abstract

In 2019, I pursued a durational performance, appropriating the socialist playwright genre of "production play". Based on Heiner Müller's play "Der Lohndrücker", I produced a site-specific, multimedia performance (The Redundancy) for exploring how former GDR literary genres and plays are still valid and relevant for today's neoliberal working reality.
The production as a durational performance, plus the live performance, also resulted in a ground breaking re-definition of the genre. This will be of utmost relevance to German Studies scholarship in GDR drama, as well as for theatre practitioners.
