Virtual Microscopy: A Revolution in Pathology Education

Research output: Contribution to conferencePoster

Abstract

Traditional microscopy remains a cornerstone of pathology education, yet it presents challenges related to access, scalability, and standardization. Virtual microscopy (VM), powered by digital slide scanning, is transforming how students engage with histopathology, providing interactive, flexible, and high-resolution learning experiences.

This study explores the integration of virtual microscopy into pathology education, highlighting its impact on:

- Accessibility and inclusivity: enabling remote learning and improving resource availability.
-Self-paced, adaptive learning: allowing students to interact with digital histology slides, zooming and annotating for deeper engagement.

Results show enhanced student comprehension, engagement, and diagnostic accuracy. By eliminating geographical and logistical barriers, VM supports a more equitable learning environment, making pathology education more scalable and interactive.

The findings underscore virtual microscopy’s potential to revolutionize histopathology education, bridging the gap between academia and clinical practice.
