I am an interdisciplinary researcher in water science and engineering with experience in the broadly related areas of integrated water resources management, water-energy-food-environment nexus, water-gender nexus, and climate change impacts on land and water resources.

I sit on external committees on water, energy, climate change impacts; and engage with SMEs, practitioners, communities, and schools both nationally and internationally.

Before Bangor, I was a Teaching Fellow in Water Science at UCL and before then a Postdoc Research Fellow at Exeter where I contributed work to several large-scale, international consortium research projects.

I now mainly work on the Dŵr Uisce project https://www.dwr-uisce.eu/ where I'm looking into the energy performance of key water demands in the built environment. My projects in Dŵr Uisce include:

  • Citizen science project on water-energy use and efficiency in Irish households
  • Climate action hackathon in schools in Ireland and Wales
  • Benchmarking water-energy efficiency in leisure centres.

I am also currently involved with:

  • An edited book: Rainwater harvesting for the 21st century in collaboration with Dr Kemi Adeyeye (Bath) and Dr Ilan Adler (UCL). The call for abstract has now closed, but if you have an interesting case study on rainwater harvesting you would like to be included, please submit here or contact me for more information.
  • Royal Academy of Engineering Distinguished International Associate 2022-2024 funded project on: Pollution and waste management in informal settlements in Jordan (Zaatari and Baqa'a camps) and the MENA region in collaboration with Dr Rania Aburamadan (Middle East Univeristy).
  • Royal Academy of Engineering Frontiers Champions 2021/22 funded project on: Learning and sharing experiences in rainwater harvesting from around the world as a pioneering appropriate technology for sustainable long term access to clean water in collaboration with Harry Chaplin (Tatirano Social Enterprise, Madagascar), Dr Ilan Adler (UCL), and Dr Kemi Adeyeye (Bath).
  • Bangor University Graduate Internship Scheme 2019 project: Climate change and the Water-Energy-Food nexus in indigenous communities in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.

Teaching and Supervision

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I contribute to teaching and assessment in:

I also guess lecture/ speak both internally and externally.

Supervised dissertation in Bangor:

  • Aliya Mshelah M Alenazi , MSc: Effect of climate change on water resources in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA): a systematic review.
