Dr David Beck

(Former)

Overview

My research interests revolve around the political economy of society, expressed through social policy, sociology and geography. My main area of research focuses on the impact of inequality and poverty, but also the changing food choices available to people in developed nations. With expertise in Social Policy, Sociology and Political Social-Geography, I am interested in developing a research informed teaching profile around people’s experience of contemporary social policy. Primarily working with qualitative data analysis, I am experienced in research methods such as focus groups and semi structured/biographical interview techniques and life history analysis explored through Constructivist Grounded Theory. In addition to this, spatial methods of data visualisation through GIS (Geographical Information Systems) Mapping also occupies a large part of my research interests as a method for illustrating social and socio-political phenomena. I have been teaching (lecturing and tutoring) since 2013 and nominated for several student-led teaching awards.
