Computational Models of Welsh for the Processing of Speech

PhD research at Bangor University on computational models of Welsh for the processing of speech.  Fully funded by KESS II Scholarship in partnership with the Welsh Government and the European Social Fund.

The Language Technologies Unit at Canolfan Bedwyr are developing speech recognition for the Welsh language.  My research is on this technology and how it can be improved and used in the future, for medical, educational or archival use for example.  I am currently looking at each element of the speech recognition system individually in order to optimise the system as a whole.

Looking ahead, the overall goal is that we will have the best possible technology using the best possible data that is available to us in order to offer Welsh speech recognition to those who need it most.
