I am currently researching the impact of slurry acidification, a technique widely used in Denmark to reduce ammonia emissions, on soil and crop quality. The research will encompass large scale field based experiments to develop an understanding of interactions between slurry combined with sulphuric acid, soil characteristics and crop responses. This is in addition to lab based research in a controlled environment where an ammonia volatilization system will be used to determine the impacts of slurry pH upon soil quality and gaseous emissions as well as investigating the buffering capacity of different soil types from across the UK.
