Currently studying as a PhD Researcher for Bangor University. Developing Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Autonomous Surface Vehicles to track marine life with SEACAMS2. Partnered with KESS II (European Social Fund) located at Bangor University, and HR Wallingford, an independent research and consultancy in civil engineering & environmental hydraulics, located in Oxfordshire.
Developing a set of open source C++ modules that integrate different robotics and autonomy platforms such as ROS (Robotics Operating System) and MOOS-IvP (Mission Oriented Operating Suite, Interval Programming). Designing a single heterogeneous system that works on a multitude of different platforms that converts remotely operated vehicles into autonomous systems. Designing and implementing an acoustic sensor system for reactive autonomy that allows the tracking of marine life.
Preliminary research and personal development on machine learning and computer vision AI techniques for obstacle detection and avoidance. This is using both optical and LiDAR sensors. I also have interests in a swarm based AI solution as a more efficient but less cost effective approach. Future research also includes the use of embedded systems and sensors such as GPS, IMU, WiFi and Iridium capabilities.
