Mr Greg Flynn
Research Project Support Officer (Health Economics)

Overview
I have worked in the field of research since November 2014. I started as a data entry clerk for a cancer research biobank in England. I summarised histopathology, radiology and cancer therapy reports. I searched pathology databases and investigated NHS patient records to transpose key information for minimum datasets.
I progressed to the senior role of information officer at the biobank. I maintained a GDPR-compliant database for recording sample types, storage locations and project allocation, and produced regular reports. I worked on the backend of the database to optimise it for the biobank and two national charities. I also transported, stored and conducted audits on human samples in line with the Human Tissue Act (HTA), DPA and NHS Trust policies.
However, I missed North Wales! I applied for a position at NWORTH CTU and was fortunately accepted as a Trial Development Facilitator. I worked on multiple projects, organised site files, conducted site visits to ensure protocol compliance, prepared and reviewed documentation, and worked with the CTU manager to monitor and plan budget expenditure.
Being flexible, I applied for the role of data manager for the IDEAL Programme. I used IT systems to input data, liaised with sites to resolve data queries, and was responsible for several staff in their data entry progress and accuracy. I had a leading role in dataset preparation and archiving in a public-facing repository.
This experience gave me the expertise to apply for trial manager positions. I joined the iSupport for Dementia Carers study, where I oversaw and managed a mixed-methods randomised controlled trial from set-up to archiving. I edited publications and contributed to the final report to funder. For a separate programme, I amended the Excess Treatment Cost profile for the study, which helped activate several NHS research sites. I have developed documents and procedures for multiple studies with Patient and Public Involvement (PPI).
