I am registered adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and hold a Master of Science and a PhD in Health Economics from Queen’s University Belfast along with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Senior Fellow HEA. I am a senior Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences/Centre for Health Economics and Medicines Evaluation (CHEME) in Bangor University.
In my academic roles, I teach on undergraduate and postgraduate courses and engage in programme and curriculum design and review. I developed the strategy for integration of health economics in to the undergraduate and post graduate health professional curriculum within the school. I am actively involved in the development and revalidation of the BN in nursing and post graduate diploma in adult nursing curriculum in line with the NMC new educational strategy. In my role I provide pastoral support to personal and research students and undertake the additional roles of deputy programme manager for PGDip in Adult nursing as well as the professional lead for Fitness To Practice (FTP) and Professional Lead for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
I supervise undergraduate and taught master’s research projects as well as PhD student projects and have externally examined PhD research projects. I am a trained Social Return on Investment (SROI) practitioner with a specific interest in Social Prescribing (SP), Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and SROI research into public health policy and evidence-based practice.
I am a peer reviewer for The Lancet Digital Health and editorial member for Nursing and Healthcare International Journal. I am a member of the Public Health Economic Research Group (PHERG), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Health Economist’s Study Group (HESG) and Welsh Health Economist’s Study Group (WHESG). I am an independent member of Bangor University Senate Committee, member of the advisory board for Social Value Hub within CHEME and a steering group member for the Wales School for Social Prescribing Research (WSSPR) and Wales Social Prescribing Research Network (WSPRN) and contributed to two commissioned report on social prescribing for Welsh Government. I am an external examiner at Swansea University and Liverpool John Moore’s University for nursing and Leadership programmes.
