N2 - We collected 20 carcases of animals found dead in gardens and woodlands between August 2022 and June 2023. Bodies found dead on roads were excluded from our sample. We initially examined faecal material from each of the 20 animals by electron microscopy, which failed to detect any viral particles in each case, an indicator of absence of pathological disease. Following these analyses, spleen tissue from each animal was extracted and examined by qPCR for adenovirus amplified DNA and the results revealed that nearly all (19/20) were positive for adenovirus amplified DNA.
