Do we know enough about the potential of visual art programmes to increase the quality of life and well being of people with dementia? Katie Salisbury, Katherine Algar and Gill Windle review the literature of the arts in dementia care, with a specific focus on visual arts.
This scoping review was undertaken to inform the development of a research proposal. The key aims were to:
a) identify published academic and grey literature relating to the effectiveness of arts intervention programmes and art therapy programmes for older adults including those with dementia.
b) review and summarise the research evidence.
c) identify gaps in research evidence.
