Olga Diego Freises (Alicante, 1969) studied Fine Art at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the University Miguel Hernández and graduated from the latter in 2006. Her artistic production –always critical and innovative– has mostly focused on performance art but relies heavily on drawing and maquette-making. In line with many of her contemporary artists, Olga Diego uses video not only as a means to record her actions but also as an art form. Therefore, one can speak of video as the main basis or format of her artwork as well as the photographic register or memory of her actions. The filming is normally manual with some instances where the camera has been attached to an artefact. In this way, the artist is able to offer different perspectives. Likewise, Olga Diego makes use of natural, artificial or firelight to achieve different effects. Her video art plays with
ambiguity, is thought provoking and offers different levels of definition. The authors of this article explore the use of video in a range of actions undertaken in various locations in Spain, Free Western Sahara and Egypt by the performance artist, Olga Diego.
