The ever-increasing need for seabed infrastructure enabling offshore centralised storage and renewable energy extraction requires accurate predictions of erosion and deposition of surrounding seafloor sediments. As offshore surveys are prohibitively expensive and time-consuming, improved flow simulations around seabed objects are preferred. In this study, a coupled TELEMAC3D-GAIA model is developed to help understand the interaction of the enhanced diverted flow around a submerged cylinder with the surrounding bed in a controlled laboratory environment. The present study focuses mainly at the shape of the object in the computation domain. The performance of TELEMAC3D-GAIA for simulating scour in the wake of the object is assessed in terms of the accuracy of the hydrodynamic simulation and the morphodynamics of the bed evolution. Preliminary results from the simulations show a potential of using TELEMAC3D-GAIA to simulate the flow and bed dynamics around submerged objects.
