Description | Recent research (paper published October 2024) by academics from King's university, London, evaluted two forms of AVATAR therapy for people who hear voices which cause distress. The interview covered topics such as what this consists of, to what extent it builds on previous work, and what the future of technology in mental health services is. I made reference to the link between poverty and psychosis, and between childhood abuse and voice-hearing (not in every case), about tailoring intervention to the individual and how nothing really beats a safe, trusting relationship with a good therapist. I also noted that prevention is better than cure, and the real way to tackle stigma is by increasing awareness and understanding about the root causes of voice-hearing and psychosis. Involving poeple with lived experience (as the researchers from King's did) is always important. |
