Description

Black Rock: From Climbing to Performance
This presentation explored the practice-led immersive performance project Black Rock based on the first ascent of Indian Face on Snowdonia’s Clogwyn Du’r Arddu at stage@leeds in November 2017. The presentation explored the research aim for Black Rock: how can the experience of mountaineering be translated to an audience on the ground? reflecting on the discoveries provoked by site visits to Snowdon, workshops with climbers and dancers, interviews with elite and casual climbers - including the original ascensionist of Indian Face, Johnny Dawes - and audience feedback from the production. The paper also considered practice-led research design.
