Craig Owen Jones graduated from Bangor’s School of Music with a PhD in 2006, and joined the staff as a teaching fellow in 2007. Craig specialises in popular music, particularly in lesser-used languages. He has published over a dozen articles and chapters in edited volumes on the history of Welsh-language pop. Other music-related interests include music and science fiction, and popular music in film and TV.
As a multi-disciplinary academic, Craig also publishes in other fields, including fandom studies, medieval history, and literary criticism. His most recent book, Watching Doctor Who: Fan Reception and Evaluation (co-written with Paul Booth of DePaul University), was published with Bloomsbury in early 2020, while his study of native Welsh castles, Princely Ambition: Ideology, castle-building and landscape in Gwynedd, 1194-1283, will be published with the University of Hertfordshire Press in 2021.
