Research

My research investigates the potential and possibility of utilizing documentary as a platform to document, “history from below” in Egypt over the last decade. It has found significant gaps in the literature; both in relation to the understanding of documentary practices in Egypt and the Arab World, and in representations of the truth and reality of the Arab public.

I am especially interested in the relationships between documentary, journalism, film, and alternative documenting practices such as animation, theatre, and web-based storytelling, particularly as they are applied in authoritarian regimes.
