N2 - This chapter explores the emancipatory and utopian dimensions of planetary urbanization, through the case the Manta-Manaus multimodal transport corridor in the Ecuadorian Amazon. It traces the ways in which utopian fantasies of postmodern hyperspace and rational spatial order have been undermined by the chaotic forces they conceal and confronted with the materialization of a Real utopia, in the form of an autonomous urban project launched by an indigenous community faced with imminent dispossession. The dialectics of this struggle embody the possibilities, limitations and antagonisms of utopian urban projects under conditions of planetary urbanization.
