Bracken and the Ecology of Lyme Disease: Proceedings of the International Bracken Group 1994

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Summary of 5 year research programme on four UK bracken areas, Quantock Hills, Exmoor, Peak District and North York Moors. Project involved investigating the population characteristics of Sheep Tick Ixodes ricinus the principal vector for Borrelia spp and the prevelance of the bacteria in individual ticks in comparison with adjacent hosts. Bracken supported the greatest numbers of ticks, especially in the presence of suitable hosts, and the higher vector densities created larger reservoirs of pathogens than in other adjacent habitats, eg. Bilberry, Heather and damp acid grassland.
