Implementation of a Concept-based Curriculum

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

This article discusses the implementation of a Concept Based Curriculum (CBC) at Bangor University. Midwifery students at Bangor University received theory in a traditional classroom transmission-based style.1 This may have led to students who struggled linking large amounts of theory to practice.3 Giddens2 discusses the overcrowded curriculum and the negatives associated with this in terms of the learner’s ability to learn all the information. Therefore, colleagues designed a CBC, with the underpinning aims of highlighting the importance of optimising the childbirth experience in line with the Lancet Series on Midwifery4 and bridging the theory-practice gap.3,5.
