N2 - Synthesis of single enantiomers of mycolyl arabino glycerols, glycolipids previously isolated from Mycobacterium avium–Mycobacterium intracellulare complex, is described using a modified glycosidation method and esterification with structurally defined synthetic mycolic acids. The l-glycero-compound has an essentially identical NMR spectrum to the arabino-glycerol fragment of the natural material.
