Ernst Haeckel was an incredible German biologist in the 1800s and is best remembered for his art, particularly of plankton! A group from the School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University embarked on a project (funded by the Challenger Society of Marine Science) to collate his images, digitalise them and make them accessible to the public. They have also produced this article 'The remarkable Ernst Haeckel' on his life's work. If you would like to see a collection of the illustrations of medusa, siphonophores and radiolarians that Haeckel drew for the Challenger Reports, go to http://haeckel.bangor.ac.uk/.
