N2 - The announcement in December 2023 of Samir Shah as the UK government’s preferred candidate for Chair of the BBC has revived a recently neglected question about the funding of the corporation, and of Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) in general. Or could a more competitive model of sharing out the licence fee help create a more dynamic and plural PSB landscape?
