Publication rights regarding excavations conducted with a permit by the Hessian State Agency for Monuments (LfDH) (2017)
Following the discovery that the LfDH claimed publication rights in excavation data recorded during excavations permitted by the LfDH under the Hesse State Monuments Protection Law (HDSchG), I corresponded with the Head Archaeologist in the LfDH. I requested this practice be immediately stopped, since it violated German Intellectual Property Law (UrHG). The practice was abolished by the LfDH 5 days after I had sent the letter.
