Mr Finn Mannion
Research Project Support Officer
Overview
I am a research project support officer at the School of Ocean Sciences focussing on the water quality of shellfish harvesting areas to promote the safe consumption of shellfish. Since 2019 I have worked on multiple UK based projects that have focussed on understanding the ecology of bacteria and viruses in the aquatic envirnonment in order to mitigate public health risk.
These have included the DASSHH project (Developing an Assurance Scheme for Shellfish and Human Health), the Shellfish Centre and Detection of norovirus - Assessing community prevalence and risk of shellfish contamination. These projects have involved both environmental sampling and the sampling of wastewater treatment works to help understand the sources of contamination in shellfish harvesting waters
