WebCT: Fully Featured Browser-Based Interactive X-Ray Simulations for Scan Planning and Training

Research output: Contribution to conferencePosterpeer-review

WebCT is a browser-based tool to run interactive X-ray simulations and tomographic reconstructions with a focus on rapid and accurate results. Leveraging existing open-source technologies such as gVirtualXRay for GPU-based X-ray simulations, alongside spekpy and xpecgen for spectra generation with CCPi's CIL library for tomographic reconstruction, a full X-ray source and detector setup can be modelled with results previewed in real-time. This has large potential in training and scan planning with modelled beam emission spectra, support for custom material mixtures, detector impulse response, and data/configuration exporting. The result is a fully featured all-in-one software package that is tailored towards usability at all skill levels, with a flexible user interface for scan planning and training. The ability to quickly prototype scan parameters and material composition with accurate results saves a significant amount of time in scan configuration on the day of experiments for the highest quality data collection. The simulated projections and tomographic data can be used for other applications without requiring beamtime or component manufacturing.
